Tastings, talks and technical demonstrations for coffee industry professionals filled two sunny days in Portland, Oregon, last week at the 2026 Roast Summit event hosted by Roast magazine.
Interspersed with coffee breaks, lunch and an evening happy hour and pub crawl, the sold-out event drew hundreds of roasting, green coffee and commercial equipment professionals together for networking, learning and a lively sharing of experiences and ideas.
A few of the highlights from sessions last week included a presentation by Caffè Amouri Roastmaster and Head of Coffee Operations Nicki Amouri that touched upon the results of experiments involving variables such as different charge temperatures and turnaround time temperatures.
Coffee consultant and Guilder Coffee Owner Laila Ghambari shared iinsights and strategies for improving cafe and roastery profitability.
Events in the tasting hall included an exploration guided by La Minita Coffee Senior Vice President Scott Merle of different processing methods’ impact in the cup.
Meanwhile outside, live roasting demonstrations were conducted on San Franciscan, Loring, Diedrich and Sivetz production roasters alongside Roest, Aillio, Nucleus Link and Ikawa sample roasters.
The event that originated in Portland in 2020 has since also taken place in Seattle, the Chicago area and Melbourne, Australia. The next Roast Summit is scheduled for March 2-3, 2027 in Melbourne. Here we share a few scenes from last week’s Summit in Portland:
