The Specialty Coffee Association of America will soon be releasing a support guide for coffee retailers who want to run a greener business.
The Green Guide, which SCAA says should be available in November, is a series of digital booklets that will cover topics including energy conservation, waste reduction, water conservation, and toxins reduction. Green Cafe Network (GCN) is providing technical assistance for the Guide’s content, while the Food Service Technology Center (FSTC) is providing research and expertise.
The modules will tackle conservation and sustainability issues that are specific to coffeehouses, and the group plans to also introduce a mechanism for measurement offered through SCAA’s START (Sustainability Tracking and Reporting Tool). The goal is to link simple, practical steps with a broader industry effort.
The guide concept responds to feedback from SCAA members seeking guidance and practical information about greening their retail operations. To learn more, and to sign up to become a participating retailer visit www.scaa.org/lowimpactcafe.
