The closing of a Northern Illionois Caribou Coffee location has led to the opening of a high-end brick-and-mortar retail bar and roastery, Hansa Coffee Roasters.
Led by Tom Maegdlin, Hansa has been selling coffees online for three years, finally opening a cafe in Libertyville, Ill., late last month. Next to railroad tracks and near a downtown train depot, the shop features an expansive main seating space with two large bay doors opening to the street.
Here’s more from the Hansa team on their coffee mission, as well as an explanation of the Hansa name:
In April 2013, Hansa chose a location in Libertyville to serve as our roasting and wholesale headquarters as well as house an espresso and manual coffee bar. At Hansa, we source, procedure and roast some of the finest coffees available. To keep a high degree of quality, we regularly rotate in new coffees that demonstrate our commitment to only serving the best coffee we can find.
In homage to the medieval trading guild, the Hanseatic League (Hansa), Hansa Coffee Roasters carries on the tradition of building strong relationships with our producers, our customers and the community. Our promise is to supply you with the best cup or bag of coffee you can find anywhere. To deliver this type of commitment, we take coffee very seriously. The results were best spoken by one of our customers: “This is some seriously good stuff.”
