Inside Tierra Mia’s New 1,900-Square-Foot Bay Area Store

Los Angeles-based Tierra Mia has opened its second Bay Area location in a high-ceilinged, 1,900-square-foot space in Uptown Oakland. All signs suggest that business is going well for Tierra and owner Ulysses Romero, who now owns nine shops. (A San Francisco location opened last summer.)

As at other Tierra Mia cafes, painted along the back wall of the bar is the message “El mejor café vene de tierra mia,” which translates to “The best coffee comes from my land,” and photographs of coffee farmers and processors are prominent throughout the main retail space.

Tierra Mia roasts its own beans in L.A., and the typical drink menu consists of espressos and pour-over coffees, as well as specialty drinks such as the Mocha Mexicano, Horchata Latte, Coco Loco Latte, Cubano con Leche and Horchata Frappe. Baked goods will be provided by Emeryville-based Starter Bakery.
