Berkeley, Calif.-based Artís Coffee is celebrating the grand opening of its second U.S. retail store, in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley, on Saturday, May 16.
The San Francisco store occupies a significantly smaller space than the flagship Berkeley store, which opened in late 2013, although it still allows for what Artís calls the “Live Roast Experience.” In a nutshell, that experience is live, on-site custom roasting for customers using a number of Javamaster fluid bed roasters.
The Artís concept, which has also been replicated through a licensing agreement in Bangkok, brings together roasting and brewing under one roof, where the bar is merely one piece of the retail puzzle. The entrepreneurs behind the concept have been raising funds for retail expansion, hinting that more U.S. locations may soon follow.
The Hayes Valley location is at 537 Octavia St.
