Unpacking Coffee with Kandace and Ray: Truth Coffee Roasters

truth coffee roasters

In this week’s episode of Unpacking Coffee, Kandace and Ray chat with David Donde, the founder of Truth Coffee Roasters in Cape Town, South Africa, known widely in coffee circles for its elaborately designed, Steampunk-inspired café and roastery.

Donde, however, is a roaster at heart, having taught himself the craft using is own empirical methodology during down time as a hotelier while supplying freshly roasted coffee for guests on weekends. Donde now roasts on a 60-kilo, 1940s Probat that was originally outfitted to run on diesel but has been miraculously updated to run on biofuel.

Here Donde shares more about his entry into the roasting world, Truth’s approach to fair and sustainable sourcing and how he hopes the company’s coffee will be on every “coffee geek’s” bucket list:

Unpacking Coffee is a weekly show discovering new coffee roasters one episode at a time led by Kandace and Ray of the Portland-based studio Needmore Designs, which specializes in coffee, wine and lifestyle brands.
