Santa Cruz, California-born Verve Coffee Roasters tomorrow swings open the doors to its long-anticipated Los Angeles flagship roastery and cafe, known as the Verve Roastery Del Sur.

The 7,000-square-foot facility on Mateo Street, just west of the 4th St. bridge in the Los Angeles Arts District, essentially constitutes Verve’s second California headquarters, and its 14th retail shop overall.

Built upon the company’s 12 years of experience in high-end coffee roasting and retail, the new LA HQ also ventures into food and beverage territory that has not yet been explored by Verve.

“This space showcases our continued innovation and growth as a brand, while establishing a home for our team and community in Los Angeles,” Verve Coffee Roasters Co-Founder Colby Barr said in an announcement of the opening. “It is a combination of a roastery, test kitchen, beverage innovation center, training lab and event space, while still upholding what we live and breathe everyday — coffee.”

Pushing the company’s beverage program forward, the new Verve Los Angeles bar will include experimental non-alcoholic and coffee-based beverages such as the Smoked Chickory Latte, the Cascara Negroni and the Old-Fashioned. The bar will also feature 18 taps for a broad selection of nitro cold brews and other beverages, according to the company.

Verve has also hired its first executive chef, Mario Tolentino, who helped devise a wide-ranging full menu that will include items such as a vegan BLAT, buckwheat soba noodles with a house-made ponzu, sesame banana pancakes and a breakfast sandwich with an organic egg, “everything spice” hash browns, cheddar, cherry tomato, aoli and bacon glazed in a coffee-infused maple syrup reduction. Bread and pastries will be coming from local purveyor Superba and the Los Angeles bakery of New York-based Erin McKenna.

The L.A.-based architecture and interior design firm Design, Bitches led the design, while local firm Terremoto LA helped execute Verve’s charge to “bring the outdoors in” with abundant plant life throughout the 110-person seating area and production areas.

Verve will be hosting its grand opening on Friday, Aug. 23, with various coffee and food tastings.

The Verve Roastery Del Sur is located at 500 Mateo Street in Los Angeles, California.
