With its inaugural High Density event, The Barista League raised nearly $4,000 for the Vermont-based nonprofit Grounds for Health.

Taking place last week — and now available in full here — the High Density event gathered a broad array of speakers, presenters and educators online to deliver back-to-back talks and tutorials.

Guests attending the free event were asked whether they wanted to include a small donation of $5 or a custom amount to Grounds for Health, which currently organizes cervical cancer screening and prevention programs in coffee-growing regions of Ethiopia and Kenya. Attendees ultimately generated $3,850 for the organization.

The Barista League, a marketing and event company that has expanded steadily since its founding in 2015, launched High Density as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, which has dramatically reshaped the coffee event landscape.

Though the group has not yet announced any in-person events for 2021, it has transitioned to host a series of online barista events, while also introducing a 2021 specialty coffee market report and a book on planning coffee events.
