From New York to New Jersey to New Paltz, enticing new coffee shops popped up all over the Northeastern United States this year.

Some pair coffee with high-end culinary programs, while others maintain a strict focus on coffees from specific countries and regions, offering bare-bones expressions of coffee terroir. Several of the companies on list have taken bold dives into retail after establishing their roasting operations for years.
