The Layer 41 event space in Seoul’s Seongsu district will transform into a plungeatorium this December 5-6 as it plays host to the 2025 World AeroPress Championship.
Now in its 17th season, the freewheeling elimination-style tournament has come a long way since its three-person debut in a tiny Oslo backroom. Organizers say some 6,000 competitors now duke it out across 180 regional and national events each year.
After recent world championships in Melbourne (2023) and Lisbon (2024), the WAC heads back to South Korea for the second time, the first being 2017.
In addition to the core competition, the 2025 WAC will include a “Roasters Village” featuring select coffees from Korean and international roasters, a “Bakers Lane” stocked with locally made snacks and baked goods, and a disco- and soul-heavy DJ soundtrack.
Organizers are expecting more than 60 national champions to be competing in the event, while early bird tickets for other AeroPress enthusiasts and the general public will go on sale beginning in October.
For U.S. AeroPress aficionados seeking to throw their hats into the competition ring, there is a new “American AeroPress Championship” format coming this fall, with events planned for Austin, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco and Seattle.
