The Tweed’s Wirui Estate coffee plantation in Australia will open to the public for a series of farm tours and tastings on selected weekends in March, April and May.

Stretching over 5 hectares of the picturesque Carool Hills west of Tweed Heads, the plantation is home to Zeta’s Coffee – one of the region’s most awarded coffee producers which has been featured on ABC TV’s The Cook & The Chef and in Vogue Living Magazine.

For the plantation tours and tastings, owner Zeta Grealy has teamed up with leading barista trainer, Richard Bradbury, to provide a unique insight into how coffee is grown, harvested and processed.

“We’ll start the workshop out among the coffee trees to talk about the growing cycles and harvesting before heading into the processing shed and roasting room,” said Zeta.

“Richard then moves onto the personal experience of tasting and drinking coffee, looking at the different tasting areas of the tongue and how the aromas and flavours of coffee interact.

“You’ll be able to contrast and compare different varieties at a coffee ‘cupping’ to see how origin and processing impact on the individual taste of each blend and we’ll finish with Richard’s espresso making workshop.”

Richard Bradbury was the National Training Manager for Grinders Coffee and now runs tasting and brewing classes all over the country as the head of training and education for Coffee Australia.

“His passion for coffee and his in-depth knowledge of the processes involved make these workshops a real ‘paddock to palate’ adventure,” said Zeta.

“Even for people who may not be that interested in the technical aspects, it’s just a really lovely day out in the country, wandering around our beautiful plantation, enjoying the hilltop views and sitting down to lunch or afternoon tea with a great bunch of people.”

The Wirui Estate Coffee Plantation Tour and Tasting sessions will be held on March 8 and 9, April 5 and 6, and May 31 and June 1, from 1pm to 5pm on the Saturdays and 10am to 2pm on the Sundays.

The cost of $109 per person includes either afternoon tea (Saturdays) or lunch (Sundays).
Group sizes will be strictly limited to a maximum of ten people so bookings are essential. Visit eventbrite.com.au and search for ‘coffee plantation’ or email [email protected] to reserve your place.

Wirui Estate is located at 119 Blissetts Road, Carool, 30 minutes’ drive from the Gold Coast Airport.
