Exploring the Genetic History of Wild Arabica with Aaron Davis (video)

A gift to coffee enthusiasts everywhere, SCAA Symposium has begun releasing videos from its 2013 event in Boston. The following video features Aaron Davis, a coffee expert with England’s Kew Botanical Gardens, who in a highly entertaining talk helps us understand some of his field research on the genetic history of arabica, while charting the potential for its extinction.

“We actually share 50 percent of our DNA with the coffee plant, which is great news,” Davis says before getting into some of the more serious points in his presentation. “Unfortunately, we also share 70 percent with the fruit fly.”
