Tandem Coffee Roasters of Portland, Maine, is readying a second retail location, less than two years after opening its roastery and bar in the East Bayside neighborhood.
The new shop is slated for 742 Congress St. in a former automotive garage. While Tandem’s coffee has quickly gained a reputation in the city — including taking home a 2014 Good Food Award — expect big things from the pastry program at the new shop. Here’s what to expect, from Tandem owners Will and Kathleen Pratt:
Tandem’s cafe and bakery plans to pair its high-quality coffee menu with a full-scale baking program headed by Briana Holt, whose extensive resume most recently includes Pies ‘N Thighs in Brooklyn, NY. Some of the seasonal bakery offerings will include sweet and savory pastries and a rotating selection of pies, all made on site. Expect more seating and a similar vibe to Tandem’s East Bayside Location, i.e. hi-fi no wi-fi. Construction is expected to start in April with aims to open early summer.
