Los Angeles roaster/retailer Caffe Luxxe, which celebrated its first decade in business last year, has opened its first new café in seven years, a bright, compact shop just steps away from Carbon Beach (a.k.a. “Billionaire’s Beach”) in Malibu, Calif.
The Malibu shop is the company’s third store since longtime friends and Luxxe Founders Mark Wain and Gary Chau first opened in Santa Monica, and later in Brentwood. It also precipitates the opening of two more Luxxe locations scheduled to take shape this year, including one at 11640 San Vicente Boulevard in Brentwood, and another in the Montecito Country Mart.
As its double-consonant name suggests, Luxxe from its outset has aspired to offer guests a luxury coffee experience, which in Malibu is propelled by a more traditionally Italian-inspired espresso menu, while a rotating range of single-origin coffees and Luxxe blends are available through Bee House pourovers. All of Caffe Luxxe’s coffees come from the company’s Probat-centered L.A. production headquarters, known as “Il Laboratorio.”
The Malibu location also supports a tightly curated retail display that moves beyond coffee and into other boutique items such as stationery, handmade cards, napkins, decorative papers and soaps. It also expands upon Luxxe’s existing retail stores by offering an outdoor patio with seating.
In an announcement heading into the Malibu opening, Wain and Chau said, “The Caffe Luxxe ambience is one where family and friends can get together in a social environment, and your barista knows your name and favorite drink; a true sense of neighborhood is essential to our philosophy and lifestyle, and we’ve found that here at our new beachside home.”
Caffe Luxxe Malibu is now open at the Malibu Sands Center, at 22333 Pacific Coast Highway, Suite 160.
