After revamping its flagship barista competition in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Barista League is venturing at full speed into the coffee conference space with the launch of High Density, pitched as an online coffee conference for all people.
The group yesterday announced a dazzling roster of dozens of specialty coffee speakers, educators, trainers, thinkers, doers and dreamers for High Density, which is taking place Tuesday, March 9.
Roast magazine is proud to be a media sponsor of the conference, which is free to all guests for general registration. Numerous interactive experiences led by coffee professionals with various backgrounds do cost $7 per session, and those slots are selling out fast. The organizers are also collecting donations for the nonprofit Grounds for Health, which leads cervical cancer screenings in certain communities where coffee is grown.
“The High Density program showcases a diverse range of world-wide industry professionals presenting topics including no tipping policies, how to go viral on social media, and coffee cocktail creation with subjects ranging from community engagement, coffee and colonialism, barista and roasting skills, palate development, marketing, and more,” the Barista League said yesterday in an announcement of the big event.
While the itinerary may be high in density, its low barrier to entry is in keeping with the Barista League’s long-running spirit of inclusivity. What started as a single barista competition in 2015 has continued to grow and expand to new cities — with the exception of the past 12 months, for obvious reasons — while carrying the the tagline, “for baristas, by baristas.”
In addition to taking its competition online in 2020, the Barista League has been keeping plenty busy over the past year putting together a coffee market insight report and as well as a book and complementary resources for in-person and online event planning called “The Guide to Planning Better Events.”
