Italian espresso machine manufacturer La Marzocco has rolled out the Linea Classic S, the next generation of the company’s long-running, heavy-duty Linea Classic model.
Following last year’s update of the classic GB5 model, the Linea Classic S includes both mechanical and electronic upgrades while maintaining the clean lines and relatively low profile of the model’s iconic exterior design.
La Marzocco Global Product Manager Scott Guglielmino told DCN that the new machine boasts some “very considered updates that make what it already does great even better” while not disrupting the workhorse nature of the Classic, which debuted 30 years ago following the 1990 market launch of the first machines in the Linea line.
Said, Guglielmino, “The price doesn’t change, but the feature set gets better, and the technical performance gets a nice upgrade.”
The machine is currently available in 1- to 4-group versions, and in EE and AV configurations.
The Linea Classic S also comes with built-in wifi for compatibility with the Pro App IoT system that launched earlier this year, and its physical buttons have also been updated for improved tactile feedback.
A built-in shot timer comes standard on all new machines, as does La Marzocco’s dual PID technology for controlling water temperatures.

Optional features for the Classic S, where the S stands for “standard,” include sensors for detecting incoming water hardness, auto steam wands, railings for cup stacks atop the machine, barista lights, and more.
Noting that the LM Classic is longest running, longest continuously produced commercial machine line in the company’s lineup, Guglielmino said, “We keep it a Classic while adding more to it by really understanding what the value of the Classic is: reliability, consistency, and value.”
The company debuted the Classic S last month at the SCA World of Coffee event in Milan. La Marzocco also marked that occasion with a week of “Open Days” at the Accademia del Caffè Espresso, including tours of the coffee academy and exhibition space, and activities such as roasting and extraction workshops.
The MSRP for a 2-group Linea Classic S starts around $11,000 in the U.S., while prices vary by country and configuration.
