One of two major products rolled out by Italian coffee grinder maker Mazzer at the recent HostMilano trade show in Italy was the Kony Sg, a commercial espresso grinder with grind-by-weight (GBW) technology.

Mazzer Kony Sg
Mazzer’s first foray into the growing grind-by-weight field, the Kony Sg builds upon the existing Mazzer Kony grinder platform, featuring the same small-footprint 63-millimeter conical burrs spun quietly at 420-500 RPM, as well as IoT connectivity for remote data monitoring.
The Sg model adds a portfilter-holding load cell under the grinder’s chute that’s tied to a slew of new weight-based programmability features.
“We have been working on this project for a long time to ensure precise dosing under all working conditions,” Mazzer Marketing Manager Cristina Scarpa recently told Daily Coffee News. “Kony Sg features a professional built-in scale to deliver consistent doses while streamlining the workflow. Its precise and robust load cell operates with an accuracy of 1/100th of a gram, consistently delivering excellent results.”
The Sg allows users to set three programmable doses based on either weight or time, or to use a manual grinding mode. An automatic dose pausing feature activates when the portafilter is removed, while a 2.4-inch display available in 19 languages provides real-time data.
Slated to be available in a number of color finishes, the 1.3-kilo hopper and grinder body combined stand 27.5 inches high, 10.5 inches deep and 8.25 inches wide.
Mazzer has not yet disclosed MSRPs for the Kony Sg model. The company expects the model to be available in the U.S. market in Spring 2024.
