Italian coffee equipment conglomerate Simonelli Group, owner of the Victoria Arduino and Nuova Simonelli brands, has acquired Swedish drip coffee machine maker 3Temp.
For Simonelli Group, whose portfolio of brands and equipment remains largely focused on espresso brewing and grinding, the acquisition of fresh-faced 3Temp represents a significant expansion into the world of filter/drip coffee brewing.
“Together, we have the opportunity to fully meet the market’s demands, delivering exceptional experiences to coffee lovers around the world,” Marco Feliziani, CEO of Simonelli Group, said in a press release this week.
The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
A Simonelli Group representative told Daily Coffee News its strategy behind the 3Temp acquisition, both from a marketing and commercial perspective, will be unveiled next year.
3Temp, which was founded in 2014 in Arvika, Sweden, takes its name from its initial technological focus on enabling different water temperatures for three distinct phases within a filter brewing profile.
Nimble temperature changes in 3Temp machines are made possible by “tankless” water systems that heat water on demand. Each brewing phase also features a variable number of customizable pulse-pours.
The flagship 3Temp machine, initially called the Hipster, first became available in the United States in 2017. The “Hipster” name now refers to a three-model family of machines that includes the 3Temp Puls, Wall and Kobra models.
Puls is the Hipster line’s traditional-style countertop batch brewer, offering hot brewing and cold brewing options. The Wall is essentially a wall-mounted Puls, with its internal components hidden from view.
Kobra is a counter-mounted, adjustable-height Puls brew group with its heating system installed beneath the counter. Kobras can accommodate larger urns, as well as single or small multi-cup batches, using either 3Temp filter baskets or third-party manual equipment.
The Simonelli Group acquisition announcement comes just a few months after the group revealed the Victoria Arduino PureBrew+ brewing system for filter-style brews.
Also stepping outside of Simonelli Group’s espresso wheelhouse, the PureBrew+ machine is a standalone unit for performing the filter-style PureBrew technique that was originally introduced as a feature on Black Eagle Maverick espresso machines. Coming in Spring 2025, the PureBrew+ machines similarly offer 3-phase brew profiles with customizable pulse pours.
“We are thrilled to join forces with Simonelli Group,” 3TEMP Co-Founder and CEO Anders Eriksson said in this week’s press release. “Their ability to scale innovative solutions globally will enable us to continue focusing on what we do best: creating leading-edge coffee machines.”
