Santa Cruz’s Verve Coffee Roasters has some big brick-and-mortar plans for Los Angeles, where the coffee company’s profile has been expanding.
Sources at Verve remain tight-lipped about the plan’s specifics, but news broke last August that Verve had eyes on the District Millworks space in the downtown arts district, which already includes Handsome Coffee Roasters and may soon also include Stumptown. Yesterday, Verve Co-Owner and Coffee Buyer Colby Barr told Daily Coffee News, “We aren’t disclosing the location yet.” However, Barr did shed some light on why the company, which maintains two retail bars in Santa Cruz, along with its flagship roastery and retail bar, plans to enter L.A.
“The move to LA is an opportunity to share our brand firsthand with a community that has been really supportive of us,” says Barr. “We have some great relationships there and look forward to growing with them. Also, the street art scene is out of control, which may or may not really be why I want to go there.”
