Chicago’s Dark Matter Coffee, which has been building a steady following since growing out of The Star Lounge in Ukranian Village in 2008, has opened its third retail location, Osmium Coffee Bar. Osmium, which carries on the Jesse Diaz-owned company’s culture of sci-fi/intergalactic/Steampunk/funk — think George Clinton opens a coffee business — is at 117 W. Belmont Ave. in the Lake View neighborhood.

The Star Lounge has been the company’s flagship retail spot for years, and DMC last year opened a new roasting HQ with a small retail element, The Mothership. Osmium, the company’s first brick-and-mortar project outside Ukranian village is a more traditional neighborhood shop, with a focused menu and an ample bar with limited seating.
Dark Matter tells Daily Coffee News that the bar will offer single-origin espresso shots and drip coffee from DMC “relationship coffee” partners, including farms in Mexico and El Salvador. There will also be a small latte and specialty drink menu. The bar will also offer baked goods from local Do-Rite Doughnuts and West Town Bakery, while Sauce & Bread will provide sandwiches.
