Green coffee trading company Sucafina has continued its multinational expansion and brand consolidation with the formal launch of Sucafina NZ Ltd. in New Zealand, including spot offerings in Auckland and Christchurch.
The New Zealand business is part of the Swiss trading company’s Asia Pacific network, which includes businesses and offices in Hong Kong, Australia and Yunnan, China.
Leading the New Zealand business will be New Zealand Specialty Coffee Association (NZSCA) past president Carl Sara. A decorated barista competitor, roaster and importer, Sara previously ran MTC New Zealand before MTC Group was acquired by Sucafina in 2019, and he was most recently the company’s business director in China.
Sara is joined in the New Zealand by longtime specialty coffee professional Joseph Luke Oosten, who came to Sucafina last September.
In an appeal to quality-focused smaller roasters, Sucafina said the New Zealand business will offer that specialty green coffees packaged in 20-kilo boxes.
Sucafina last June announced that it was unifying various brands under the name Sucafina Specialty, including the change from MTC Group to Sucafina Specialty Asia Pacific.
Since that time, the company has opened its China business, based in the Yunnan Province, and acquired the UK-based coffee trading firm Complete Coffee Ltd. More recently, the company formalized its Indonesian business by establishing PT Sucafina Indonesia.
