The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has announced that the 2022 World Barista and Brewers Cup Championships will take place in conjunction with the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) in September 2022 in Australia.
Additionally, the group announced that its five other main world championship events for 2022 — Latte Art, Coffee In Good Spirits, Cup Tasters and Coffee Roasting — will be held next June in conjunction with the World of Coffee international trade show in Warsaw, Poland.
The MICE show was initially scheduled to host the 2020 World Coffee Championships, which were canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Similarly, Warsaw was set to play host to the 2020 World of Coffee event, the SCA’s largest annual gathering in Europe, but that event was also canceled.
Of course, it has been a trying 1.5 years for any organization that engages in international event management. SCA-sanctioned World Coffee Championships — which have been known to bolster individual coffee careers while simultaneously shining lights on coffee brands, equipment makers, coffee producers, and more — have not taken place since 2019.
The first major SCA in-person event scheduled to take place since the onset of the pandemic is the 2021 Specialty Coffee Expo, which is scheduled for New Orleans beginning Sept. 30.
