Portland, Oregon-based nonprofit Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) is adding to its “Private Collection” auction (PCA) portfolio with the forthcoming Super Mujeres Nicaragua auction, which will showcase only high-quality coffees that were grown by women.
The auction program is in partnership with the Nicaragua’s National Commission for the Transformation and Development of Coffee Farming (CONATRADEC). The online auction will take place June 23, and ACE just started shipping samples to buyers.
“Working on this project has been a highlight of this year so far, ACE Auction Manager Kathia Lopez Rosa said in an announcement of the new program. “We are committed to the equality of the genders in this industry and believe that this auction will impact the life of the female producers in Nicaragua. We can’t wait to see the auction results of these amazing coffees.”
ACE, which is a sibling nonprofit to the long-running Cup of Excellence green coffee competition, has not yet released details on all the auction coffees, However, all coffees promise to come from some of the country’s more than 14,000 female farmers.

The renowned Nicaraguan cooperative PRODECOOP will be participating in the auction program, according to ACE. In the launch announcement, PRODECOOP General Manager Merling Presa Ramos said, “We feel so proud to be part of the first auction in Nicaragua that will award the work of female producers in our country.”
Other ACE Private Collection Auctions in recent years have fetched top dollar from buyers all over the globe seeking farm-traceable, high-quality microlots. Last September, the Best of Yemen auction resulted in an average price per pound of more than $63, while the inaugural Taiwan PCA reached a per-pound average of $94.50.
Additional upcoming ACE PCA auctions include the Tanzania Ngorongoro Group auction and a “One of a Kind Guatemala” auction.
