London may be the center of the UK coffee universe, but quality is building everywhere. With this in mind a pair of coffee people organizing the inaugural Cup North, a two-day coffee and culture gathering in Manchester.
Longtime barista trainer at Dublin-based Bewley’s and Buckinghamshire-based Peros Fair Trade, Hannah Davies and Ricardo Gandara turned to Kickstarter to help fund Cup North, at the last minute raising €5,900. While coffee is the focus, the event is intended to shine a light on Manchester’s emerging foodie culture as a whole, featuring beer-makers, street food vendors, food writers and dozens of coffee roasters, retailers and equipment makers.

A chunk of the cash raised will be going to host Tamper Tantrum, the public coffee discussion program founded in 2009 by Stephen Leighton and Colin Harmon. Other coffee-focused events will include an expo hall, cuppings, tastings and demonstrations.
The two-day Cup North is taking place Nov. 1-2 at Artwork, Greengate, M3 7NG, a converted light bulb factory now used for events and creative startups. Here’s the ticket info.
