The 2020 World Barista Championship and World Brewers Cup will be taking place in Melbourne, Australia, according to events organizer World Coffee Events (WCE).

The Barista Championship and Brewers Cup are two of the most prestigious events in WCE’s portfolio, which also includes world championships for roasting, cup tasting, coffee and spirits combinations, cezve/ibrik brewing, and latte art.

Taking place this year in Boston during the SCA Specialty Coffee Expo, the Barista and Brewers world championships have been held only one other time in Australia, in Melbourne in 2013, when U.S. barista Pete Licata won the barista championship. The 2020 events will coincide with the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) show, taking place May 4-7.

The World Barista Championship has been running annually since 2000, while the World Brewers Cup first took place in 2011. Combined, the events are expected to draw about 85 national champions from across the world for the four-day competitions.
