Study Finds Ants May Help Suppress Coffee Berry Borer

A new ecology study suggests small ants may gain a reproductive benefit from evicting coffee berry borers from coffee fruits. A University of Michigan release said Jonathan R. Morris, now a postdoctoral researcher at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, observed ants using borer-made cavities in coffee fruits to rear their own young, potentially supporting more diverse ant communities on coffee plants.

UK Ad Regulator Rules Against Exhale Coffee Claims

The UK Advertising Standards Authority upheld a complaint against Higham Miller Coffee Ltd., trading as Exhale Healthy Coffee, over a paid Instagram ad. The regulator said the ad made unauthorized health claims related to telomeres, cellular aging, antioxidants and polyphenols, while also including health claims that referred to the recommendation of an individual health professional.

Stumptown and Portland Timbers Launch Coffee Collaboration

Portland, Oregon-based Stumptown Coffee Roasters has partnered with Major League Soccer club the Portland Timbers on a limited-edition coffee and merchandise collection. The collaboration includes Net Wrecker, a co-branded coffee with tasting notes of milk chocolate, toffee and candied citrus, alongside Timbers-themed gear.

Weber Workshops Unibasket Named Official World Barista Championship Basket

Nevada-based coffee equipment maker Weber Workshops said its Unibasket has been selected as the official espresso basket of the 2026-2027 World Barista Championship. The single-piece stainless steel basket was developed from the company’s Unifilter platform and is designed as a drop-in basket for standard 58-millimeter portafilters.

Wavelength Coffee Roasters Launches Hospitality Division

Shirley, Massachusetts-based Wavelength Coffee Roasters has launched a hospitality division targeting cafes, restaurants and hotels. The business-to-business push follows a recent agreement with Revival Cafe + Kitchen to serve Wavelength’s Hacienda La Minita coffee from Costa Rica at its Greater Boston-area locations.

Regis University Joins 2GoCup Reusable Cup System

Denver-based Regis University has become 2GoCup’s first U.S. university partner, according to the reusable packaging company. The 2GoCup system replaces single-use takeaway cups with reusable cups that can be returned for a deposit refund or swapped for a clean cup on a later purchase.

Luckin Coffee Wins Thailand Trademark Appeal

Luckin Coffee has won a long-running trademark appeal in Thailand against Royal 50R Group, operator of lookalike Luckin-branded cafes. According to Tranfan Law, Thailand’s Court of Appeal for Specialized Cases upheld Luckin’s prior rights to its name and deer logo, ordered cancellation of 50R’s Thai trademark registrations and upheld damages totaling roughly THB 95 million, or approximately US$3 million.

Thai Police Seize Fake Nescafé and Ovaltine Products

Thai authorities seized 226,720 counterfeit items in raids tied to fake Nescafé coffee, Ovaltine cocoa and Downy fabric softener products. According to ThaiRath, police raided sites in Saraburi province and Bangkok’s Thung Khru district, arresting four suspects and seizing finished sachets, packaging materials, raw ingredients and production equipment.

Peak City Coffee Partners With The Fresh Market

Apex, North Carolina-based Peak City Coffee said it has partnered with The Fresh Market to offer its coffees at six Triangle-area stores. The participating stores are in Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Southern Pines, according to the company.

Ziggi’s Coffee Names Stacey Pool Chief Growth Officer

Colorado-based Ziggi’s Coffee has hired Stacey Pool as chief growth officer as the drive-through coffee chain continues franchised expansion. Pool previously served as chief marketing officer at FullSpeed Automotive and Noodles & Company, and she joins Ziggi’s as the company reports 120 open locations and at least 200 more in the pipeline.
