It’s about that time of year when the “best of” lists come out. Best books, best movies, best new restaurants, best drugstore launches, best tropical deep house music — you name it, and there’s a “best of” list.
One of the best of the best of lists in the coffee world comes from the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE), organizers of the Cup of Excellence green coffee quality competition and auction program.
On Saturday, Dec. 1, ACE is hosting its second annual “Cupping the World” event at its headquarters in Portland, Oregon, giving guests the unique opportunity to cup the very top coffees from each of the 12 COE competitions in 2018: Brazil Natural and Brazil Pulped Natural, Colombia, Peru, Burundi, Rwanda, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico.
The winning coffees will be grouped by processing method — natural/pulped natural, honey or washed — for the sake of the blind cupping. While all the coffees have already found a home through COE’s auction program, it’s nonetheless a remarkable opportunity to taste and compare a whole bunch of dazzling 90+ selections.
ACE Executive Director Darrin Daniel will lead the cupping, which will be followed by hors-d’oeuvres and beverages, according to ACE. The cost to participate is $30, and tickets are available here.
